Bursting of firecrackers permitted from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am on Christmas & New Year Eve

District Magistrate West Jaintia Hills District B S Sohliya has allowed the bursting of firecrackers from 11.35 pm to 12.30 am during Christmas and New Year’s Eve Day.

The District Magistrate issued the prohibitory under section 144 Cr.P.C where sale, purchase and procurement of foreign-made firecrackers in the district is banned.

The use of joined firecrackers (Series crackers or laris) which cause huge air, noise and solid waste problems is also forbidden in the district.

The use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB (A1) or 145 dB (C) pk at 4 meters distance fom the point of bursting is prohibited.

Further the prohibitory banned the bursting of crackers within 100 meters of Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Primary and
District Health Care Centers, Educational institutions, Courts, religious places or any other areas which may have been declared as Silent zones by the conccrned authorities.

Further, the sale of firecrackers shall only be through licensed traders and it shall be ensured that these licensed traders sell only those firecrackers which have been permitted by authority concerned and are in compliance to Central Pollution Control Board guidelines.
