    The District Magistrate East Khasi Hills District has promulgated Section 144 CrPC prohibiting the burning of grasses, woods and other organic and inorganic matter etc. in public and private property, forest grassland areas, park gardens, places of plantation, barren lands within East Khasi Hills District.

    The prohibitory order was issued following several fire incidents in Shillong City and other parts of East Khasi Hills District.

    The District Magistrate observed such fire outbreak may likely occurred in several places that are residential or of administrative importance as well as those frequented by members of the general public including office premises of various functionaries. Educational Institutions and Commercial Establishments among others.

    The order is promuglated as such fire incidents pose a serious threat to the lives of the people, properties and destruction of the environment.

    Suchfire incidents will also cause a loss to the population, local economy and overall interest of the people,the order said.
