Congress legislator from Mawlai Process T Sawkmie on Friday said there is not much in the Union Budget 2022-23 to cheer for the North Eastern states.

Sawkmie said only Rs 1,500 crore was allocated for the North East region despite the central government talking a lot about development of the region.

He wondered how the North Eastern states would be able to develop with such a small budget.

The MLA said he thought that the Government of India would focus more on helping the people with employment and financial relief as many have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“Therefore, the  budget  this year  has  failed to  address the problems of the  people,” he added.
