BTC election on Sept 22, counting on Sept 26: poll schedule announced

The Assam State Election Commission on Tuesday announced the schedule for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, setting September 22 as the date of polling and September 26 for counting of ballots.
With the notification issued, the filing of nominations began on Tuesday. The last date for submitting nominations is September 2, while scrutiny will take place on September 4, with the list of valid candidates to be published the same day. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw nominations until September 6, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be released. In case of a repoll, voting will be held on September 24.
This election will see a sharp rise in voter numbers, with 26,57,937 registered electors (13,23,399 male and 13,34,521 female), marking a 35 per cent increase from 2020 when there were 23,87,046 voters.
Polling will be conducted through ballot papers in 3,359 polling stations across 40 constituencies. Of these, 30 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates, four for non-STs, while five seats remain open.
The maximum expenditure limit for each candidate has been fixed at Rs 10 lakh.
