BSF launches women’s command-level sports meet in Guwahati

The Guwahati Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday inaugurated a three-day Command-Level Women’s Sports Competition at its Patgaon headquarters. The event will run from August 25 to 27.
A total of 136 women athletes from BSF’s Eastern Command (Kolkata) and Western Command (Chandigarh) are participating in disciplines such as judo, wrestling, weightlifting, and boxing across various weight categories.
The competition was formally inaugurated by Rajesh Kumar, DIG (PSO), Guwahati Frontier. The opening ceremony featured a march-past by the participating teams accompanied by the BSF Brass Band. Athletes also took a pledge to uphold sportsmanship and discipline throughout the competition.
Addressing the gathering, Rajesh Kumar said it was a matter of pride for the Guwahati Frontier to host the prestigious meet. He emphasised that the objective of the women’s sports event is to identify and nurture female talent within the force, providing them with training under skilled coaches to help them represent BSF at national and international levels.
Highlighting past achievements, he noted that several BSF athletes have excelled globally, winning medals and earning honours such as the Padma Shri and Arjuna Award. Expressing optimism, he added that many of the participating athletes could also achieve international success and bring glory to both the BSF and the nation.
