Border Roads (ADGBR) Eastern Projects, Additional Director General Jitendra Prasad concluded a week-long inspection of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) works under Project Vartak. The project, headquartered in Tezpur since 1960, has been instrumental in constructing and maintaining vital roads and bridges in the Kameng and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

During his visit, the ADGBR reviewed key infrastructure along the Orang-Kalaktang-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) road, Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road, BJG axis, Sela-Chhabrela road, and the Sela Tunnel. The OKSRT realignment between Balemu and Kalaktang is expected to cut travel distance by 17 km, removing multiple sharp bends to allow smoother traffic.

He also inspected the under-construction Dirang Bypass and the 135-metre Pinjoli bridge on the BCT road. The bypass will ease daily traffic congestion in Dirang town, while the Pinjoli bridge, nearing completion, is considered strategically vital for the western axis leading to Tawang and forward areas.

In Tawang district, Prasad travelled to Zimithang via Lumla and assessed progress on critical border roads, including stretches at Nelya-Hatonga, Nelya-Ring Contour, and Nelya-Dhaula, under the 127 RCC of 42 Task Force. He further inspected works at 117 RCC in Sungetsar, reviewing the Sungestar-Sulula and Cheema-Karpola roads, before proceeding to the Tawang–PTSO Lake–Bumla–Assam Hill–LGG Road in the 125 RCC sector. The 52-km LGG-Damteng-Yangtse road, under construction by 120 RCC of 763 Task Force, also came under review.

Highlighting the significance of these projects, the ADGBR said enhanced road connectivity is crucial not only for defence preparedness but also for the socio-economic upliftment of border areas—improving access to healthcare, education, trade, and tourism.

He commended Project Vartak, its Task Forces, and RCCs for maintaining operational roads in remote, high-altitude terrains despite extreme weather and difficult conditions, while urging timely completion of ongoing works.
