A bridge along the Amlarem–Kudengrim road at Amsohkhri, Khonglah, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon when a truck carrying mud plunged into the stream below. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The collapse has cut off road connectivity to several villages, including Padu, Khonglah, Nongbareh, and Kudengrim.

Residents said heavy vehicles continued to ply on the weakened structure despite restrictions, further compromising its safety.

An official notification issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Amlarem, had earlier prohibited the movement of heavy vehicles on this route due to the construction of new RCC bridges under PMGSY–III. The notification (No. ASD/Genl/PWD.13/2009/Vol-II/136, dated July 8, 2025) banned heavy vehicles with effect from July 9 until completion of the new structures.

Villagers alleged that trucks defied the order, which eventually led to the collapse.
