In a bid to ignite a movement for water conservation, the Brahmaputra Board organized a dynamic awareness programme at P.C.P.S Girls’ Polytechnic, Bamunimaidan, Guwahati. Themed “Involving Youths/Students in River and Water Conservation,” the event aimed to educate and empower the next generation to take proactive steps in preserving the region’s crucial water resources.

The event opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, setting the stage for a vibrant cultural performance by Pradipta Choudhary. Nitul Talukdar, Assistant Engineer at the Brahmaputra Board, officially inaugurated the programme, stressing the pivotal role of youth in environmental conservation and the urgent need to protect water bodies.

The awareness drive featured a series of thought-provoking discussions. Gobinda Ram Kalita, Lecturer and Head of the Civil Engineering Department at the Polytechnic, delved into the impact of civil engineering on water resource management. Dr. Siddharth Arora, Scientist-B from the National Institute of Hydrology, delivered an engaging presentation on the ecological importance of rivers and the necessity of their conservation.

Adding further expertise, Nripendra Kumar Sarma, Former Secretary of Public Health Engineering, Assam, shared invaluable insights and best practices in water conservation. The event also featured a hands-on demonstration of water sample testing techniques, showcasing the Brahmaputra Board’s ongoing initiatives.

Dr. Nazrul Haque, Principal of P.C.P.S Girls’ Polytechnic, reinforced the significance of sustainable water management in his address to students. To foster greater engagement, essay and quiz competitions were organized, with winners receiving prizes and certificates.

As the event drew to a close, Chief Engineer Basanta Kumar Deka urged students to champion water conservation and become advocates for environmental sustainability. The programme concluded with a symbolic plantation drive, reinforcing the commitment to a greener, water-secure future.
