Congress chief Vincent H Pala on Wednesday slammed the BJP for trying to bulldoze its way to implement the uniform civil code (UCC).

Speaking to reporters, Pala said through the UCC, the BJP wants to implement one nation, one religion and one language.

“But in India, we flourish because of our diversity. India is great because of diversity not uniformity. BJP is trying to bulldoze others through its culture but that is not possible as India will live, will unite and be strong through diversity not uniformity.”

Pala said, “The BJP is playing cleverly. Till today we are yet to see the draft (of the UCC). They are entrusting the Uttarakhand government to draft the bill. At the same time they are asking for the views of millions of people through the law commission.”

The Shillong MP informed that he had recently written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Law Commission for exempting Sixth Schedule areas from the UCC in view that tribal have their culture and practices.
