BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek has predicted a potential win of 20-30 seats for the party in the upcoming Assembly polls.

“We have the potential of winning almost 20-30 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Hek told reporters on Thursday.

He however stated that in Meghalaya’s context, the outcome also significantly depends on the candidates’ profiles and personalities, rather than solely on the party’s strength.

Hek also dismissed concerns about a lack of good candidates joining the BJP, saying, “How can you say that good candidates are not coming to the BJP? Like TH Rangad, he was a good candidate of the BJP. We welcome all. Time will be a great healer, and time will tell us.”

On the upcoming GHADC elections, Hek expressed confidence that the party’s consistent work for the people will earn their trust.

Hek also said that his party’s consistent efforts throughout the year have been crucial in strengthening its presence.

“BJP is one of the political parties that works 24×7,” Hek said, highlighting the party’s dedication to staying in touch with the people and working for their welfare.

Hek acknowledged that all political parties face challenges in garnering mass support. “It’s not an easy task to get the mass support of the people,” he said while asserting the importance of continuous engagement with the public.

Regarding recent anti-Christian incidents, Hek clarified that some organizations might be involved, but social media often creates and blames the BJP.

“If you ask me as a politician, it is because it is not done directly by the BJP, why would it have an effect on the BJP? If BJP has not done anything wrong against any community or any Christian, Hindu, Muslim or any faith, if the BJP is directly involved then only, I will tell you yes it will have an effect on the party.”

When asked, Hek acknowledged the cutthroat nature of politics, stating that all parties play their own cards to gain an advantage.

“We cannot deny the fact that all political parties are playing their own cards,” Hek said. Stating that the BJP is no exception, he said, “Sometimes BJP is also playing its own card against other political parties, so other parties also will play their own cards against the BJP.”

Regarding Tura MDC Bernard N Marak seeking help from leaders outside the state, Hek saw no issue with it. “There’s nothing wrong in seeking help from anybody,” he said, adding that seeking assistance is a normal part of politics.
