The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked all aspirants who are interested in contesting the upcoming KHADC and JHADC elections to submit their application to the district presidents by December 30.

In a statement issued here, the party said that the list of final candidates will then be forwarded to the State Election Commission on January 5, 2025.

“Through these elections, the BJP hopes to attain a position whereby the party can influence the long pending amendments to the 6th Schedule; in a manner that will have a positive impact on the running of Meghalaya’s local administrations,” it said.

“If the party wins the requisite number of seats, BJP will push for direct funding of village administrations.  It’s a move that will significantly empower the village headmen and Dorbar Shnongs across Khasi and Jaintia Hills, ensuring streamlining of development projects and smooth dissemination of the numerous Central schemes that have been designed to help improve the lives of people across all levels.

The Meghalaya BJP looks forward to use the Autonomous District Councils as platforms to serve the people and deliver development at doorsteps of every household in Khasi and Jaintia Hills,” the BJP stated..

“BJP feels that the ADC’s serve as the perfect base to promote local traditions and administrative wisdom that have stood the test of time and has served the local tribes for centuries. The time has come to strengthen heritages, conventions and customs to fulfill each citizen’s aspirations for a prosperous life,” it further added.
