The BJP’s central scheme monitoring committee will soon submit a report into the alleged shoddy construction of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong to the Centre for necessary action.

This was informed by BJP leader and former cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek after conducting an inspection of the ISBT here on Thursday.

He was accompanied by the members of the monitoring committee.

Speaking to reporters, Hek said, “We will submit a report on the substandard work being undertaken while constructing the ISBT to the central government as well as the North Eastern Council, which has funded Rs 48.31 crore for the project.”

Asked if the committee will demand for inquiry into the matter, the former minister however said it is for the central government to take a call on what action should be taken on the matter.

Hek informed that during the inspection conducted in the presence of the Deputy General Manager Salseng A Sangma, the committee had witnessed that cracks have also developed in the building besides the leakages.

“We are very concern about the safety of the passengers coming from outside the state in view of the incident,” he said while urging the authorities concerned to ensure that people’s safety will be their top priority as if anything goes wrong, it will surely give a bad name of the state.

The BJP leader said that he has also suggested the need to set up a generator in the ISBT due to irregular power supply.

“I have also told them to set up pre-paid taxis for the convenient of the passengers and tourists so that nobody should be harrassed,” he added.
