The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tura City District along with Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has taken the responsibility to repair the 30 km road from Tura to Jengjal on Shillong-Guwahati road.

BJP spokesman, Bernard N Marak said though the road is called a highway but it is full of pot holes which is a shame to the authorities as well as the people of Garo Hills adding some holes were 5 inch deep and one metre wide often filled with muddy waters.

“The legislators saw these holes during their visits to Garo Hills but never bothered to ask the concerned departments to repair the holes in the road,” Marak said.

He said the party saw the plight and distress of the travellers and decided to immediately took up the task to repair 30 km road.

“Within 6 hours, BJP volunteers managed to fill up more than 50 major potholes and dug drains to avoid flow of water through the road which was one major factors for road damage. It’s sad that public safety is not taken as a priority by our leaders while they sit comfortably in their bungalows, people suffer in Garo Hills,” Marak said.

According to him, the dilapidated condition of the road has been a cause for major accidents.

“People stopped  expecting change from the legislators who doesn’t even have time to answer your call,” the BJP spokesperson said while adding that the party will cover more miles in the coming days if time permits.
