Opposition Congress chief and sitting MP Vincent H Pala on Friday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has compelled the National People’s Party (NPP) to confess to the people of Meghalaya that they are the same.

“BJP compels them to confess to the people of Meghalaya. The BJP wants to know what is the mood and what is the strength of the people of Meghalaya,” Pala told reporters after addressing an election campaign at Iawmusiang, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills here.

He was referring to a recent statement made by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma that if people still want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come back, they should vote for the NPP.

Pala said that the CM’s speech had only exposed the NPP.

“In the last election they said that there is no link between NPP and the BJP but today they are exposed. Ampareen had already stated from the beginning that she is there to coordinate between Delhi and Meghalaya through the BJP. That is why now they have been exposed before they try to hide behind the curtains,” he added.

He said that now it is the Congress’ turn to show its strength and unity.

On NPP spokesperson HM Shangpliang alleging that voting for Congress would be like sailing on a sinking ship, the Congress chief said, “Shangpliang is like what we say in Jowai you eat from the same plate, and when you are enough then you throw on the same plate in Jowai.”

“Most of these candidates are like that, they are with us and enjoy all the work and benefit from the Congress but once they reach a certain level and then they try to destroy their own image. So whatever he said I think it reflects his own reputation,” he added.
