BJP MDCs in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) have slammed chief minister Conrad K Sangma for interfering with the internal affairs of the BJP.

“It seems that the CM has forgotten that he is the national president of the National People’s Party (NPP) and not the BJP,” the MDCs said in a statement issued on Saturday.

This came as a strong reaction to the claim made by the chief minister that the majority of the BJP leaders want to oust Ernest Mawrie as the state president of the saffron party.

The MDCs have also termed it as childish on the part of the chief minister to talk about the affairs of another political party.

Defending the state president, they said that Mawrie is the fittest to lead the BJP in Meghalaya as he dared to speak out against corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.

“He (Mawrie) has exposed the corruption based on RTI findings,” the MDCs said.

They said that Mawrie was also against illegal coal mining and its transportation and this was also proven following the recent mishap at an illegal coal mine which killed 6 labourers in East Jaintia Hills district.
