BJP leader and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak has filed a first information report (FIR) against a contractor for allegedly cheating villagers and providing a false report to the Centre government on the augmentation of Jebalgre under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project.

Marak in the FIR filed before the SP of West Garo Hills said, “Aiok M Sangma, who is a close aid of former MLA of Gambegre, Shri Saleng A Sangma, was awarded a JJM work (Augmentation of Jebalgre) who without doing the work had submitted a false report of 60% work being completed whereas villages under this project namely- Jebalgre, Dikkimpara, Dopogre, Dosagre were deprived of water supply. The villagers did not have tap connections and potable water supply was a far fetched dream to them. The contractor neglected his duty instead claimed that Jebalgre had 100% pipe water connection but in reality there was nothing in progress.”

He alleged that “Aiok M Sangma, also ignored the calls made by the PHE department to speed up the work and complete the work in time but he turned a deaf ear. The villages which fell under augmentation of Jebalgre WSS were deprived of potable safe water supply due to the negligence of the contractor for which I urge you to register this complaint immediately so that such things does not happen in the future. Worse was that, fake completion report was submitted to the Centre Government saying that Jebalgre had 100% functional household tap connection (FHTC).”

He said similarly, Dopogre was reported to have 61 out of 78 household pipe connections with available water and Dosagre was reported to have 63 out of 72 households pipe connections with available water supply and lastly, Dikkimpara was reported to have 62 out of 69 households pipe connection and available water supply which was all false.

The truth was that that these villages did not have water connections and people have been deprived of potable water supplied to them through JJM thus failing the very objective of the mission to provide potable water, the MDC alleged while adding “This was a crime against the poor villagers of these villages. He received the work order in 2022 through a letter no. Phe.106/2009/Pt-V(B)/260 Dated 25/03/2022 but even after 2 years the villagers suffer to have water connected to their households.”

“Therefore, I humbly request you to register this complaint and file a case against the culprit under appropriate sections so that the villagers are not taken advantage of by any contractor. He not only cheated the villagers but also the Centre Government by submitting false report. Such illegality should not be tolerated therefore I seek action against the contractor immediately,” Marak stated in the FIR while informing that there are reports coming from other villages too and “we will be filing more FIRs against the culprits who submitted false report on JJM.”
