    Five youths were arrested in Dalgaon in Darrang district for allegedly burning a BJP flag and raising a slogan against the leaders of the saffron party on Thursday.

    The arrested have been identified as Muktar Hussain (20), Ainul Hoque (30), Anar Hussain (24), Boga Hoque (21) and Hanif Ali (28). 

    They have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody after production in the court of the chief judicial magistrate at Mangaldai on Thursday.

    According to the report, the five youths had blocked the road and shouted slogans against BJP leaders just after an election meeting at Dalgaon where chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma campaigned in support of the BJP candidate for Darrang-Udalguri constituency, Dilip Kumar Saikia.

    The youths blocked NH-15 for hours and allegedly burnt the BJP’s flag. 

    Based on an FIR lodged by Babul Chauhan, president of Koupati Mandal BJP, Dalgaon police registered a case against them vide No 84/24 under section 147/149/153 (A)/ 171 (c)/ 435/283 R/W Section 125 of Representation of People Act 1951.
