State General Secretary of BJP Meghalaya, Wankitbok Pohshna has demanded the Meghalaya government to institute a judicial probe into the serious allegations that have been levelled against USTM.

In a statement, Pohshna stated, “This time around, the accusation is serious in nature and demands a thorough probe by a neutral agency. Even the faintest suspicion of fake degrees and fake certificates, have serious ramifications on a student’s future, bringing with it the potential to destroy many a budding career; in such a scenario it becomes the responsibility of the Govt. to investigate and parade the truth to the public.”

“While it’s true that anyone can make an allegation, fact remains that the charges have been brought by the sitting Chief Minister of a neighbouring state which alone makes it a matter of genuine concern. The Govt. of Assam is threatening to derecognize USTM degrees for Govt. job applications which will have a domino effect and will jeopardize future prospects for many. In such a scenario, an elected Govt., answerable to the people, should not wait for official communication, but should immediately commence an independent judicial investigation,” he said.

“A sincere through inquiry by the Govt. of Meghalaya will serve either of two purposes. If the accusations are true, immediate legal action will mitigate the damage that has been caused to students currently studying in USTM. If the investigations prove that the allegations are false or unsubstantiated then the fear amongst students will be allayed to a great extent; reason why, the Govt of Meghalaya must act now,” Pohshna added.
