BJP-Congress can never work together: Hek

BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Wednesday said the BJP and the Congress can never work together.

“Congress and BJP can never work together. How can you say that? Can our Prime Minister work with Rahul Gandhi?” Hek told reporters.

He was reacting to the National People’s Party (NPP)’s allegation that the BJP’s decision to join the fray will only affect the Congress’ prospect in the upcoming Gambegre bye election, because they were working together to make Tura MP Saleng A Sangma win in the last parliamentary elections.

Refuting this, Hek said that the BJP has got nothing to do with the Congress in Garo Hills region.

“Congress has its own identity, its own supporters and its own candidate and they should fight elections on their own. Similarly, BJP also has its own candidate, its own supporters and we will fight elections on our own,” he added.

The BJP leader also expressed confidence that the party candidate and sitting Tura MDC Bernard N Marak will be able to win the Gambegre seat.

“The only issue of the BJP is development. If they (people) vote for BJP, lots of development will come to the constituency…there are so many schemes launched by the prime minister,” he said.

Asked, Hek said that during the parliamentary elections, the BJP had extended full support to the NPP but not in the upcoming Gambegre bye elections. “We have nothing to say anything against any political party (on the allegation that BJP had spoiled the NPP’s chance in the MP election),” he stated.
