BJP Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, who is chra of Kusimkolgre Akhing, on Thursday initiated the survey of the Akhing boundary along with the GHADC officials, Nokma of Kusimkolgre Akhing and the survey team from Shillong to mark the original pillars which was erected during the British time.

Marak said there has been massive encroachment by different departments without proper acquisition which grossly violated the provisions of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution.

“This survey will bring out the actual fact of the Akhing and would also show the areas occupied by different departments legally and illegally which is causing inconvenience to the local populace of the area,” he said.

He said that as per the “term of the lease” as mentioned in the Gazette of 1984, “.. the Government elected to resume under the term of the lease instead of acquiring under the Act (LA Act of 1894)”.

“We have the RTI of these lands and GHADC has no record of any transaction of land and forest,”he added.
