Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram cut off after bridge collapse

A recently repaired bridge on the Silchar-Kalain National Highway at Bhangarpar collapsed around 2 AM on Wednesday, severing vital road connectivity to Assam’s Barak Valley and the neighbouring states of Tripura and Mizoram.
The bridge, which spanned the Harang River, had reopened barely a month ago following repair works estimated at Rs 1.37 crore. Two trucks carrying stone plunged into the river as the structure gave way, though no casualties were reported.
The collapse has left Barak Valley virtually cut off, disrupting the movement of essential supplies to Tripura and Mizoram. The damaged stretch had become a vital link after the main Katigorah Gammon Bridge on NH-6 was closed for ongoing repairs.
