BJP leader and cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek on Tuesday said it is for the party’s national leadership to decide on whether to withdraw support to the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.

His statement came a day after NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong dared the state BJP to ask its two MLAs to pull out of the MDA government if it is so corrupted.

“We have no issues if the national leadership of the BJP tells us (to pull out of the MDA government). Therefore, it is for the national leadership to take a call (on this issue) and not for us,” Hek told reporters.

He said this is because the initiative and discussion that led to the formation of the MDA government in 2018 was done by the national leaders of the BJP.

“Our intention now is when the MDA government was formed it was the initiative taken by the national leadership. Therefore, whatever decision taken by the central leadership, we have to obey, that’s all,” Hek stated.

Tynsong had slammed the BJP state president Ernest Mawrie for repeated attacks against the MDA government.

Asked, Hek said that the BJP in-charge Meghalaya Dr Chuba Ao had also clearly told the party leaders that “we cannot just make allegations without any evidences”.

“We have also told time and again if you have issues bring it to the MDA coordination committee we will discuss, we cannot just bring it to the public domain directly like that,” he added.

The BJP leader however admitted that there are senior leaders of the party who have requested the need to convene a meeting to discuss and resolve this matter once and for all.

“We should have a good understanding so that our government will last till the end of its term,” he said.
