AWS opens civil service coaching & training center, over 100 aspirants enroll

The A·chik Welfare Society (AWS), under A.B. Krima No. IV, inaugurated its Civil Service Coaching & Training Center on August 29 at the District Auditorium, Tura.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma formally opened the center, describing the occasion as “momentous and historic” and emphasizing that Meghalaya’s youth are the state’s greatest strength. Noting that nearly half of the population is under 20, he encouraged students to combine belief, discipline, and scientific methods in their exam preparation and to give back to society once successful.
Thomas A. Sangma, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, attended as Guest of Honour, praising AWS’s efforts to provide structured guidance for aspiring youth. Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Vibhor Aggarwal, IAS, and Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Albinush R. Marak also attended, commending the initiative.
AWS submitted two memoranda to the Chief Minister, requesting support for the coaching center’s infrastructure and proposing a rehabilitation center in Tura for youth affected by substance abuse. The Chief Minister assured that Rs 15 crore under the DREAM project (Drug Rehabilitation, Elimination and Awareness Mission) is earmarked for rehabilitation efforts and directed the Social Welfare Department to operationalize the center within one to two months.
The program saw strong interest, with over 100 aspirants already applying for the coaching program. Organizers expressed confidence that the center would become a platform for nurturing future leaders, promoting academic excellence, personal growth, and public service.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sanggra A. Sangma of the AWSCSCTC Committee and a closing prayer by Rev. Frithing D. Sangma, Pastor of Hawakhana Baptist Church.
