    SHILLONG: Assembly’s Committee on Women Empowerment has expressed concern over the delay in operationalizing the new building of the Ganesh Das Government Maternal & Child Health hospital.   

    After chairing a meeting held with the officials of the health department here on Monday, chairperson of the committee Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the department has submitted documents regarding the requirements for operationalizing the new wing of the hospital. 

    “They had given us a huge list of so many things. Therefore, we have decided to meet again to discuss on these matters on November 15,” she said. 

    Asked, Lyngdoh, also MLA from East Shillong, said that the building of the new wing was yet to be made operationalized. The new wing will include increasing the number of beds, fertility centre and many other proposals.

    According to her, it was only after the committee’s intervention, the work has been speed up and the building was also handed over to the health department. 

    Meanwhile, the committee has also decided to summon the officials of the social department on November 8. Lyngdoh said the department was earlier asked to submit details of the draft drug policy within three months.   

    The chairperson further informed that the committee has also decided to meet women NGOs

    in Tura and Williamnagar on November 13-14, to know about the issues they are facing and to know whether there is any lack of implementation of the various schemes.
