Assam records 56.71% voter turnout in phase 2 of Panchayat polls; final count expected to rise

Assam recorded a 56.71% voter turnout by 3:30 PM on Wednesday in the second phase of the panchayat elections conducted by the Assam State Election Commission (ASEC). The final figures are expected to rise as reports from several interior polling stations are still pending, officials said.
Polling in this phase took place across 13 districts: Nalbari, Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Darrang.
Among these, Bongaigaon led with the highest turnout at 62.72%, followed by Morigaon at 60.51%, and Barpeta at 60.22%. Kamrup district recorded the lowest turnout at 51.33%.
The voter turnout in other districts is- Nalbari (59.45%), South Salmara-Mankachar (58%), Bajali (57%), Hojai (57.65%), Kamrup Metro (56.84%), Goalpara (56.22%), Darrang (53.25%), Dhubri (52.38%) and Nagaon (51.7%).
The first phase of the Panchayat polls, held on May 2, had seen a significantly higher turnout of 70.19%. That round covered 14 districts including Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi.
