Assam Raj Bhavan, under the leadership of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, commemorated the 50th Statehood Day of Sikkim on Friday with a solemn ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan Conference Hall.

In his address, Governor Acharya extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Sikkim, calling the state a “symbol of determination, harmony, and progress.” Praising its remarkable achievements, he highlighted Sikkim’s pioneering role as India’s first fully organic state and its unwavering commitment to ecological preservation.

“Sikkim, where nature smiles, is not just a state—it’s a national model of sustainable development,” the Governor said, applauding its advancements in tourism, education, and innovation.

Reflecting on his previous tenure as the Governor of Sikkim, Acharya shared personal memories of the state’s serene landscapes, cultural richness, and industrious people. “The simplicity of life and the vibrant spirit of Sikkim left an indelible impression on me,” he noted.

The Governor also celebrated the state’s social harmony, emphasizing the peaceful coexistence of communities such as Lepchas, Bhutias, and Nepalis. “Sikkim is a living embodiment of social cohesion and inclusive growth,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of the “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” initiative, stating that observing the foundation days of various states fosters cultural understanding and national unity. He described both Assam and Sikkim as key pillars of Northeast India’s identity—Assam as the gateway, and Sikkim as a model of ecological balance and cultural depth.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Raj Prabha Moktan, Director of the Regional Resource Centre for the Northeast States; Sudeep Pradhan, Independent Director of NRL; Jashoda Chettri, Assistant Resident Commissioner of Sikkim House, Guwahati; Joint Secretary to the Governor Bidit Das, and senior officers and staff of Raj Bhavan.
