Assam policeman arrested for sexaully assaulting minor girl in Meghalaya

An Assam policeman was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl from a village under Block II in Ri Bhoi district.
The incident took place on August 27.
LNK/121 Projen Langthasa of 18th APBN, Lumding, Assam was caught by the villagers but managed to run away.
A case was registered with the Nongpoh Women police station under POCSO Act.
“A team was sent to Lumding, Assam yesterday LNK/121 Projen Langthasa of 18th APBN, Lumding was arrested on Saturday afternoon from Lumding, Assam and brought to Nongpoh this evening,” district SP Vivekananda S Rathore said.
“Investigation is in full swing and chargesheet will be submitted soon. We will take all necessary action to complete the trial at the earliest and ensure justice for the victim/survivor,” he assured while adding proceedings will be initiated without any delay to provide compensation as per law to the victim by the State Government.
The SP also thanked all the officers of the Government of Meghalaya as well as Assam for prompt assistance in the matter.
