Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during his visit to Tezpur University on Sunday interacted with the faculty members and non-teaching staff of the university on its campus at Napaam.

Lauding the teaching and non-teaching members of the university, the Governor acknowledged Tezpur University’s remarkable strides in academic and research pursuits since its inception in 1994.

Kataria also hailed the university’s impressive rise in national and international rankings.

Talking about the significance of research under the NEP 2020, he asked the faculty members to intensify their efforts in transforming Tezpur University into a centre of excellence in contemporary research. NEP 2020, a transformative initiative in the country’s education system, necessitates rigorous implementation and monitoring at the university level to align with its vision. Therefore, Tezpur University should draft an agenda for the other educational institutions to roll out NEP in their management and curriculum.

Furthermore, advocating for a holistic educational environment, the Governor proposed initiating a teacher exchange programme with premier universities. Such collaborations, he asserted, would foster comprehensive changes and facilitate the adoption of best practices for superior educational outcomes.

In alignment with NEP 2020, he called for updating the university’s syllabus to meet contemporary educational standards. Moreover, he also reiterated the need for intensified vigilance from the university administration to prevent any mall practices which might defeat the noble agenda of higher education.

He also encouraged the university management to ensure frequent interactions between teachers and students to solicit feedback, thereby nurturing a conducive academic environment.

Tezpur University vice chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, Registrar of Tezpur University Biren Das along with officials and faculty members were present in the interaction programme.

Earlier the Governor attended the valedictory session of the Science teachers training program jointly organised by Tezpur University and Samagra Siksha, Assam. He said that science education plays a pivotal role in society therefore he urged the authority of TU to train science teachers of the state.
