Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday inaugurated two major facilities at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati — the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator (Linac) Radiotherapy Machine and the E-Office Facility — marking a significant step forward in cancer care and digital healthcare management in the Northeast.

The newly commissioned TrueBeam Linear Accelerator, a cutting-edge radiotherapy machine, offers highly precise and targeted cancer treatment. The advanced technology is expected to improve patient outcomes while minimising side effects, bringing world-class cancer care closer to patients in the region.

Alongside the medical advancement, the launch of the E-Office Facility aims to streamline workflow, improve administrative efficiency, and ensure greater transparency in service delivery at BBCI. Officials said the system will directly benefit patients and stakeholders by reducing delays and modernizing internal processes.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Acharya said, “The installation of the Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine will provide advanced treatment options for cancer patients, while the E-Office system reflects a commitment to efficiency and transparency in healthcare delivery. This is a step forward for the people of Assam and the North Eastern region.”

He stressed the transformative role of science in modern healthcare, adding, “In today’s scientific era, healthcare is no longer limited to medicines and surgery. We are entering into an age of precision medicine, AI-based diagnostics, and personalized therapy. The Advanced Linear Accelerator inaugurated today is a brilliant example of cutting-edge radiation therapy and will bring new hope to cancer patients in the Northeast.”

Governor Acharya also praised BBCI’s contributions to research and education, calling it a symbol of India’s commitment to knowledge, integrity, and service, which he said would form the foundation of a “Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for ushering in transformative healthcare reforms across India, citing flagship initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras, the National Digital Health Mission, and programs like TB Mukt Bharat and Nasha Mukt Bharat that aim to ensure inclusive and accessible healthcare for all.

The event was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Borah, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences; Dr. B.B. Borthakur, Director of BBCI; Dr. Anup Kumar Barman, Director of Medical Education, Assam; Prof. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati; and Dr. Basanta Kr. Baishya, Principal of Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital, along with other senior officials and medical professionals.
