Assam Governor honours 32 Assam Rifles for exceptional service and civic leadership

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Friday presented the Unit Appreciation Award to the 32nd Battalion of Assam Rifles in recognition of their outstanding service, discipline, and humanitarian work during their ongoing deployment in the state since November 1, 2022.
In a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, the Governor praised the battalion—nicknamed the “Tenacious Thirty-Two”—for their excellence in both operational and administrative roles during their tenure in Haflong. He highlighted their contributions not just in security operations, but also in supporting local communities.
“The 32 Assam Rifles is not only a pillar of military strength but also a beacon of humanity, service, and compassion,” Governor Acharya said. He applauded their role in maintaining peace and supporting development in remote areas, especially through youth-focused initiatives like career guidance, scholarship drives, and skill development programs.
Calling on the unit to continue upholding the proud legacy of the Assam Rifles, one of the nation’s oldest paramilitary forces, the Governor urged the personnel to “carry forward the baton of responsibility.”
The event was attended by Commandant Colonel G.P. Singh; Subedar Major L. Shyam Singh; OSD to the Governor Prof. Bechan Lal; officers and jawans of the 32nd Battalion; and Raj Bhavan officials.
