In light of the escalating conflict situation, the Assam government has moved swiftly to align the state’s administrative machinery with the national defence effort. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a series of stringent measures following a special Cabinet meeting on Friday, aimed at maximizing operational readiness, reducing non-essential activity, and reinforcing civil-defence coordination.

“All seminars, workshops, commemorative events, and conferences involving public expenditure are to be deferred. Foreign trips for ministers and officials stand cancelled. All non-essential gatherings or ceremonies will be postponed or moved online,” Sarma said at a press briefing.

All official meetings—unless critical—will shift to virtual mode. Emergency meetings may continue but must adhere to minimal physical presence. Non-essential travel by government officers is strictly restricted. Officers are to remain at their designated postings unless officially permitted to move.

Departments have been directed to suspend purchases of vehicles, office furniture, and infrastructure. No printing of publicity material, advertisements, or audio-visual content is allowed unless deemed absolutely necessary for public communication. Working lunches, official dinners, and cultural or entertainment events will be avoided.

Government employees currently on leave (excluding those on maternity or medical grounds) must stay available for recall, and be prepared to report to duty within 24 hours if needed. Department heads and district administrations are tasked with maintaining updated contact information—including mobile numbers, emails, and addresses—of all employees.

Hospitals across Assam have been asked to review their fuel and medical inventories to ensure adequate supply for emergencies. A state-wide registry of voluntary blood donors, especially those with rare blood groups, is being updated.

Coordination mechanisms at district and state levels are being activated to assist in the smooth movement of defence convoys. Local administrations are instructed to maintain contact with families of defence personnel from Assam posted outside the state, offering support and reassurance where needed.

District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been directed to ensure seamless coordination between civil, police, and emergency services to maintain uninterrupted civic operations.

“All departments must demonstrate discipline, efficiency, and austerity as a reflection of Assam’s solidarity with the national cause,” Sarma emphasized, adding that every arm of the government must remain fully alert and responsive to emerging requirements.
