In a significant step toward strengthening social welfare and financial administration in Cachar district, Assam Finance and Women & Child Development Minister Ajanta Neog inaugurated two key infrastructure projects on Wednesday—the District Social Welfare Office in Meherpur and the Treasury Office at Sadarghat, Silchar.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, and District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, who hailed the projects as a transformative leap in the state’s welfare and financial governance landscape.

Speaking at the event, Neog reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to social welfare, stating, “This new infrastructure symbolizes our resolve to bring essential services closer to the people. The District Social Welfare Office will act as the nucleus of our outreach programs, ensuring every woman, child, and vulnerable community in Cachar receives the necessary support.”

Highlighting the department’s achievements, she revealed that Cachar now has 16 project blocks overseeing 3,407 Anganwadi centres, following the amalgamation of 534 centres. These centres play a pivotal role in delivering flagship schemes such as providing nutritious meals to children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, POSHAN Abhiyaan – focusing on eradicating malnutrition, Sakhi One Stop Centre – offering integrated support to women facing violence, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao – empowering the girl child through education and awareness and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – working toward a drug-free society.

With 181,132 beneficiaries, including 7,054 pregnant women and 4,784 lactating mothers, Neog emphasized that these programs are building a healthier, more empowered society and urged all stakeholders to work collectively for holistic development.

At the Sadarghat Treasury Office inauguration, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty underscored the importance of strong financial infrastructure, stating that the new facility will enhance efficiency, transparency, and governance in Cachar’s financial operations.

MP Parimal Suklabaidya lauded the government’s efforts, stating, “Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister Ajanta Neog, Assam is witnessing unprecedented progress in women and child welfare.”

District Commissioner Mridul Yadav appreciated the integration of modern infrastructure with welfare schemes, calling it a crucial step toward administrative excellence. He urged all stakeholders to maximize the potential of these initiatives for community upliftment.
