Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited the flood-affected Bankuwal at Bokakhat sub-division in Golaghat district and inspected the breach point of the area in Bokakhat

Sarma took a boat journey to reach out to the area at Bankuwal where the current flood breached a point of an embankment. As a result of the breach around 72 villages got affected.

Sarma talked to the flood affected people taking shelter on the embankment and took note of the flood induced damage.

Sarma also visited the temporary relief camp set up at Kamargaon Higher Secondary school and took stock of the relief materials including facilities being provided to the camp inmates. He also enquired about the medical facilities, safe drinking water and baby food being given to the inmates in the camp.

While talking to the flood affected people, he assured them of all possible help from the government.

The chief minister also said that once the flood water recedes, the breach point will be repaired using latest technology and action will be taken to facilitate the flood victims’ early return to their respective homes.

The chief minister also said that ‘Team Assam’ has been unrelenting in its endeavour to ensure relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people.

He also asked the district commissioner to ensure that the flood victims get adequate help from the administration. He further asked the DC to ensure the availability of adequate fodder for domestic animals sheltered in the relief camps.

The chief minister was accompanied by agriculture minister Atul Bora, MLAs Biswajit Phukan, and senior officers of district administration and the line departments were present during the visit.

During his visit, Sarma also spent time in the Kaziranga National Park and took note of the animals affected by the surging flood water in the park.
Upon sighting a rhino along with its cub caught in the flood water, Sarma asked the park authority to rescue the animals and put them in safer areas.
