The Assam Cabinet on Wednesday approved a series of key policy and investment decisions, including Rs 969 crore in private sector proposals, a new commercial egg farm, and streamlined procedures for inter-religion land transfers.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decisions after the Cabinet meeting held at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Dispur.

    Land transfer rules streamlined
One of the major decisions was the streamlining of procedures for granting permission in cases of inter-religion transfer of immovable property. The move, the Chief Minister said, is aimed at ensuring transparency, preventing fraudulent or coercive transactions, and addressing potential risks to social harmony.

Under the new system, applications will be scrutinized by the Revenue Department, Special Branch of Assam Police, and the concerned Deputy Commissioner before being approved. The procedure will also apply to NGOs from outside Assam seeking land for educational or healthcare institutions, while local NGOs will be exempt.

    Rs 969-crore investment push
The Cabinet also cleared customised incentives under the Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy of Assam (IIPA) 2019 (as amended) for four major projects across sectors. Together, the proposals amount to Rs 969 crore and are expected to generate more than 2,700 jobs.

Premier Cryogenics Ltd will invest Rs 125 crore to set up a high-purity semiconductor-grade gas plant at Jagiroad, creating 200 jobs.

Jonali Construction Pvt Ltd will invest Rs 182.17 crore in the Marriott Resort and SPA project, generating 204 jobs.

Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture Ltd will establish a hospital with an investment of Rs 302.65 crore.

Ambuja Neotia Hotel Ventures Ltd will invest Rs 360 crore in a hotel project.

    Boost to poultry sector
To enhance egg production and employment, the Cabinet approved a Rs 25–30 crore commercial layer farm at Dergaon, Golaghat, under Bahubali Eggs. The project, promoted by North East Agro Products & Services, is expected to create around 700 direct and indirect jobs.

    Closure of state corporation
In another decision, the Cabinet sanctioned the closure of the Assam Plantation Crops Development Corporation Ltd. Employees will be provided a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) and one-time settlement, for which Rs 6 crore has been allocated.

    Support for cultural initiatives
The Cabinet also approved a financial grant of Rs 25,000 each for all participants of the Jhumoir Binandini programme, scheduled to be held on October 12.
