    A high-level delegation from Bhutan, led by Agriculture Minister Younten Phuntsho, met with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan to discuss enhanced bilateral cooperation in agriculture, eco-tourism, education, and trade.

    Governor Acharya emphasized the long-standing cultural, historical, and economic ties between Assam and Bhutan, nurtured over centuries. He highlighted the shared vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutan’s Fifth King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, in fostering regional prosperity.

    The discussion focused on several key areas of mutual interest including eco-tourism & Conservation: Governor Acharya proposed joint initiatives to promote eco-tourism and conservation, stressing the need to develop spiritual tourism circuits that would enrich both regions.

    He appreciated Assam’s initiative of reserving five seats for Bhutanese students in government medical colleges, reinforcing Assam’s commitment to empowering Bhutanese youth with world-class education and skill development.

    The Governor commended Bhutan’s leadership in organic farming, recognizing its global reputation for sustainable agricultural practices.

    Bhutan’s Agriculture Minister briefed the Governor on the ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City project, highlighting its potential economic and cultural benefits for both Bhutan and Assam. He sought Assam’s support in facilitating the project, to which Governor Acharya pledged full cooperation.

    The Bhutanese delegation also extended congratulations to the Assam Government for successfully hosting Advantage Assam 2.0, acknowledging its role in strengthening economic ties and attracting investments.

    The meeting reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship and partnership between Assam and Bhutan, setting the stage for further collaboration in trade, education, and sustainable development.
