Arunachal Dy CM pushes cultural revival, green growth, and anti-drug action in Namsai meet

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein chaired a high-level development meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Namsai on Friday, outlining a roadmap focused on cultural preservation, ecological sustainability, and community-based development.
A major highlight of the meeting was the finalization of an action plan to introduce the Tai Khamti language as a third language across all government and private schools and Buddha Viharas in the district. The language will be taught from primary to secondary levels starting August 16, 2025.
“The loss of a language often leads to the erosion of rituals, traditions, and cultural identity,” Mein said, emphasizing the need for urgent implementation. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure compliance across all educational institutions.
The Tai Khamti Heritage & Literary Society (TKHLS) will oversee the printing of primary-level textbooks and teacher training for the initiative.

The district will observe ‘Nadi Utsav’ on July 8, where fish fingerlings will be released into local rivers and streams to rejuvenate freshwater biodiversity.
Simultaneously, a massive tree plantation campaign titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ will roll out across government offices, public spaces, villages, and roadways to promote environmental consciousness.
One village per constituency will be selected under the new ‘Cleanliest Village’ initiative to serve as a model for sanitation, waste management, and hygiene practices.
Addressing the rising threat of drug abuse, the administration will deploy strong preventive and corrective measures with support from community-based organizations (CBOs). Flying squads will be formed to curb illegal hunting and night-time fishing, aimed at protecting biodiversity and local wildlife.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing Borbeel Lake Restoration Project, emphasizing timely execution and sustainable management of the ecologically vital lake.
The meeting saw participation from a broad range of stakeholders, including MLA Namsai Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Deputy Commissioner C.R. Khampa, ZPC Urmila Mancheykun, ZPM Chongkham, ADCs from Chongkham and Wakro, heads of departments, monks from Namsai, Kherem, and the Golden Pagoda, and representatives from TKDS, TKSC, TKHLS, and ATKSSU.
The meeting reflected a unified commitment to preserve cultural heritage, promote sustainable development, and ensure community welfare in the Namsai district.
