    President of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) East Khasi Hills District Bless Dkhar was arrested on Monday for allegedly illegally collecting money from overloaded trucks passing through the Umiam Bridge.

    He was arrested from Pohkseh. Dkhar has been collecting Rs 1500 from each overloaded truck.

    Dkhar was produced before the court, which has remanded him to 3 days police custody on Tuesday, district police chief Sylvester Nongtnger said.

    A case has been registered against the HNYF leader with the Laitumkhrah police station.

    The suo-moto action was taken based on a video which had gone viral on social media showing Dkhar while engaging in the illegal activity to allow overloaded trucks to ply over Umiam bridge.
