Amit Shah inaugurates Bodofa Marg in Delhi, vows unyielding response to Pahalgam terror attack

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while inaugurating Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg and unveiling Bodofa’s statue in Delhi, issued a stern warning to terrorists in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, promising a relentless and targeted retaliation for the April 22 assault that claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali tourist.
Speaking at the event, Shah made it clear that the Modi government will not rest until every perpetrator of terrorism is brought to justice.
“Chun chun ke badla lenge — we will avenge every drop of blood. No terrorist will be spared. Our government is committed to eradicating terrorism from every corner of this country,” he declared.
He added that the global community stands firmly with India in its ongoing battle against terrorism.
The road renaming and statue unveiling in South Delhi, near Kailash Colony Metro Station, is a tribute to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, a visionary who led the Bodo movement through education and non-violent reform. The 835-meter stretch, formerly part of Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, was renamed as part of the 35th death anniversary commemorations of Bodofa—a long-standing demand of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU).
“Bodofa envisioned a nation where identity and integrity coexist. His message of peace and education continues to inspire. Honouring him here in Delhi is not just a tribute to Bodoland but a recognition of every indigenous and smaller community across India,” Shah said.
The event saw participation from top dignitaries including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, BTC Chief Pramod Boro, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Joyanta Basumatary, Rwngwra Narzary, and ABSU President Dipen Boro.
CM Sarma praised Bodofa’s leadership and said the tribute in the national capital reflects the central government’s inclusive vision.
“This is a proud moment for Assam. It sends a strong message that Assam is central to India’s story. Bodofa’s ideals of unity through peace still guide us,” Sarma said.
He also announced that a biography of Lachit Borphukan, Assam’s legendary warrior, will soon be completed and shared across India, with a military training institute in Madhya Pradesh being named in his honour.
BTC Chief Pramod Boro hailed the moment as a historic recognition of the Bodo people’s contributions.
“Bodofa started the Bodoland movement 35 years ago with a dream of peace, identity, and dignity. Today, with the government’s support, that dream is being realised. This statue and road are proof that indigenous voices are now part of India’s collective journey,” he said.
ABSU president Dipen Boro called the occasion deeply emotional, saying, “This tribute reflects years of perseverance. Bodofa’s vision of fairness and education lives on in our work.”
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta added, “Delhi is a microcosm of India. Honouring Bodofa here reflects our commitment to unity in diversity.”
To mark the occasion, over five lakh earthen lamps and candles were lit across households and public spaces in the Bodoland Territorial Region and wider Assam, turning the tribute into a statewide celebration of Bodofa’s legacy.
The event, organized by the Assam government, not only honoured a pioneering leader but also symbolized the deepening recognition of regional icons in India’s national consciousness. Bodofa is remembered for his tireless advocacy for education, indigenous rights, and peaceful change.
