  • Air ambulance ready: Meghalaya ensures emergency medical response for Lok Sabha Polls

    In view of the Preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, on March 22, Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya Dr. B.D.R Tiwari chaired a meeting with the Nodal Officer from the H.Q Eastern Air Command Upper Shillong and Group Captain A. Sharma, the Director of NEIGRIHMS Nalin Mehta, the Transport Department of Meghalaya, the Directorate of Health Services (MI), State Nodal Officer CAPF, discussing on putting in place an Air Ambulance or Chopper Service for medical emergency during the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 place a helicopter and a cashless treatment for polling personnels who are on election duty.

    CEO has emphasized on the ECI’s concern over health care and best ever facilities for medical treatment on cashless basis and he informed that even though the weather challenge in state, all needful arrangements for airlifting in medical emergency have to be put in place as per ECI’s direction.

    With regards to providing of Helicopter for airlifting of security and polling personnel for emergency and immediate medical care, the office of the CEO will send a letter to the Ministry of Defence for necessary steps and both the Transport department of Meghalaya and the Air Force ensured that the Chopper will be put in place for immediate airlifting Police Department will keep ready all the information about the probable landing sites along with coordinates.

    The CEO has also discussed with the director of NEIGRIHMS and the DHS (MI) to provide cashless treatment to those people who are on duty for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in the State. They will also inform all the PHCs and CHCs and other hospitals to be prepared for such medical emergencies. He also urged the DHS (MI) to arrange a medical team and also an Ambulance in place so as to cater for any emergency needs.  

    Meghalaya has only three third genders voters while majority of polling stations are located in rural areas
