    The District Magistrate and District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong promulgated Section 163 BNSS prohibiting any sort of agitational programme in any form, by any individual or organization in the East Khasi Hills District with immediate effect and remain in force till further orders.

    The order was issued in view of the fact that the Model Code of Conduct and other instructions of the District Council Affairs Department have become operative in the State after the announcement of the MDC Election on Monday.

    Moreover, information has been received that agitation programmes like hunger strike, procession, rally, etc is being organized by some organization (s) in the district.

    “Such agitation programmes if held, is likely to create Law and Order problems, breach of peace and tranquillity affecting the smooth conduct of the General Elections to the KHADC 2025, if not prohibited immediately,” said the order.
