After 22 years, rapist found guilty in West Jaintia Hills

After 22 years, rape victim in West Jaintia Hills District finally got justice after she was raped when she was still a minor on May 23, 2001.

Police said on May 26, 2001 an FIR was lodged before the Officer In-Charge Jowai Police Station against Dri Phawa R/o Myrjai Village for the rape of one girl on May 23, 2001. Accordingly, a case was registered at Jowai Police Station vide Jowai PS Case No. 45(5)2001 U/s 376 IPC and the case was taken up for investigation by ASI W. Vaichei.

After investigation, the IO of the case filed a charge sheet against the accused persons U/s 376 IPC.

Police said on August 31 this year the Court of Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills, District Jowai found Dri Phawa guilty and convicted him for an offence of U/s 376 IPC and sentenced him to 10 year rigorous imprisonment.
