An advocate from East Jaintia Hills district on Tuesday asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to conduct a proper enquiry into the alleged illegal collection by its toll gate at Ialong Pasyih in West Jaintia Hills district.

In a letter to the NHAI Guwahati regional officer, Kynjaimon Amse said, “I, therefore, seek your intervention on this matter and to conduct a proper enquiry and to provide my clarification which I have sought in my petition…It really looks illegal with the kind of receipt of that is being issued at present.”

He also warned, “I will have to take up this matter with the state government if NHAI fails to give me an explanation to this.”

In his petition submitted to the NHAI Shillong Project Director on November 9, Amse had informed that he has noticed that the toll officials’ at the gate issues two kinds of toll receipt while payment is being made.

He however said that the NHAI Shillong has failed to provide the clarification on this regard.

“Till today the improper and irregular receipts are still being issued by the said toll gate which according to me is highly suspicious,” Amse said adding “I have also obtained information that the officials of NHAI toll gate at Pasyih had said that the receipt which I have enclosed in my petition are not the ones that are issued to them. In order words, they have denied issuing such receipts. This makes me more concerned and more suspicious  about the acts.”
