The A’chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) has urged Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take steps for immediate improvement of the road stretch from Bajengdoba to Borjhora in the North Garo Hills district.

The deteriorating condition of the road from Bajengdoba to Borjhora in North Garo Hills has become a significant issue for the local residents. What used to be a 40-minute journey now takes around 2 hours due to the numerous potholes and poor road conditions.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister,  ASPF general secretary Bernita Marak emphasized the importance of the road stretch from Bajengdoba to Borjhora in North Garo Hills and highlighted that this area is represented by the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, underscoring the need for attention from the ruling party.

The ASPF pointed out that this road is crucial for the local community, playing a vital role in shaping and supporting the lives of residents in and around Bajengdoba and Borjhora. The road serves as the primary route for the area’s residents to conduct small-scale businesses and transport raw materials to other parts of the state. For many, it is the main avenue for sustaining their livelihoods.

They said this road holds great importance for the residents of Garo Hills as it connects NH 51 Bajengdoba to Rongsai AMPT road via Borjhora. Rongsai, located on the Assam Meghalaya border, serves as a bustling commercial centre, and many farmers from Garo Hills depend on it to purchase raw materials such as bananas, pineapple, areca nuts and rubber sheets.

“The road is currently plagued with numerous potholes, making travel challenging and causing widespread inconvenience for the local population. The poor condition of this road has severely impacted daily commutes and economic activities in the region,” the memorandum stated.

The ASPF has strongly urged the Chief Minister to intervene and prioritize the repair of the road from Bajengdoba to Borjhora highlighting the significant inconvenience the deteriorating road is causing for the local population and the adverse impact on their livelihoods.
