The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat on Thursday informs that in order to avoid inconvenience and frustration of the public on every transaction and rejection of 10 (ten) rupees coins in East Jaintia Hills District, all shopkeepers/ vendors and consumers are instructed to accept all coins as issued by the Reserve Bank of India. If anyone is found refusing to accept the coins, action will be taken against them as per section 188 IPC.

As per section 6(1) of Indian Coinage Act 2011, all coins are legal tenders ‘in payment’. Refusal to accept legal tender of payment will attract punishment under relevant penal code 1988.
