    An employee of a city restaurant was arrested on Friday after he allegedly murdered a 41-year-old woman co-worker.

    The accused has been identified as Sunai Singh (42), who is an employee of the Trattoria Restaurant, Central Ward Bank Lachumiere.

    The matter was reported by the owner of the restuarant Batskhem Suting that one of his lady staff identified as Damonica Laloo (41) of Lawsohtun working as a cleaner in the restaurant was suspected to be murdered in the ground floor of the restaurant.

    “Immediately a team from Sadar PS rushed to the spot along with senior officers. Subsequently, FSL Crime Scene Unit was deployed and investigation into the case was started. Based on evidence collected with the help of FSL and CSU teams and preliminary interrogation, the investigating team swiftly zeroed upon the accused, Sunai Singh (42) who is a coworker in the restaurant,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said in a statement.

    “The person has admitted to the crime and divulged that the motive behind it was an argument on 27.02.2025 at about 11:00 pm after consuming alcohol emanating from an affair they were having.

    He then tried to conceal the body beside the transformer of KJP Assembly Conference Centre. The murder weapon, a hollow iron pipe, has been recovered and seized,” he said while informing that further investigation is underway to establish all the links to the crime.

    The SP informed that an inquest over the body has been conducted at the place of occurrence. The body has been shifted to NEIGRIHMS Hospital for conducting Post Mortem examination March 1.

    A case is being registered at Sadar PS and the accused has been arrested and will be produced before court, he added.
