    A sixty-nine-year-old milkman died after he was hit by an escort vehicle of the Assam Rifles at Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi District on Tuesday morning.

    Jonga Bahadur of Shangbangla succumbed to his injuries at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) after he was being shifted from Nongpoh civil hospital, police said.

    The escort vehicle of Assam Rifles (No ML 05 Y-3232) Mahindra Thar driven by Sreekanth SS of DGR Secretariat Laitkor, East Khasi Hills while proceeding from Shillong to Guwahati in a convoy  and on reaching Nongpoh down gate, Jonga Bahadur of Shangbangla suddenly crossed the road just after two of the convoy had crossed and  he has been hit by the third vehicle which was in the convoy, they said.

    Police informed that the involved driver has been sent for medical examination.  The involved vehicle has been towed to the PS for safe custody.
