  • 58-yr-old doctor sent to 20 years imprisonment under POCSO Act

    Three accused persons including a 58-year-old doctor were convicted and sent to 20 years and five years rigorous imprisonment for sexaully assaulting minors. 

    An FIR was filed on July 27, 2020 that one Doctor Ayam Sunil Khuman (58) of langsitehrim, Pyndengumiong Village (Permanent Address: Village Khurai, Imphal East District) who had a Clinic at Pyndengumiong Village, Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills had committed sexual assault on a minor victim. 

    A case was registered with Mairang Police Station. During the course of investigation the accused person was arrested and sent to Judicial custody. 

    On completion of trial, the Court of  M Kumar, Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin has convicted the Dr Ayam Sunil Khuman and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 20 years with a fine of Rs 1,25,000 under section 6 POCSO ACT and 5 (five) years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs 25,000 under section 10 POCSO Act and in default of fine, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another 6 months.

    The Court has also convicted and sentenced Buksar Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi (37) of Dombahkseh village, Eastern West Khasi Hills, to undergo imprisonment for 20 years with a fine of Rs 15000 and in default of fine, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another 6 months – for committing sexual assault on a minor victim on January 4, 2023.

    Further, the Court also convicted and sentenced Phrangsngi Ryntathiang (27) of Dongkiingding village to three years imprisonment with a fine of Rs  10,000 and in default of fine, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another six months, for sexually assaulting a minor victim on July 4, 2023.
