4 killed in rain-related incidents in Meghalaya, death toll rises to 6

Four persons were killed and one injured in rain-related incidents reported from across the state on Saturday.
14 year old Mebanskhem Mukhim from Kharang village in East Khasi Hills died after a tree was uprooted due to strong wind. Two minors – Batgrikchi A Sangma (7) and Brime D Sangma (13) from Kentapara village in West Garo Hills succumbed after they were strike by lightning while Nikolas Kharpran (36) from Kyrdeng village in Ri Bhoi drowned at Umlew River under Mawkduk village, officials said.
The death toll has risen to 6 and injured to 4, they said.
Preliminary reports on the damages caused by squally wind with extremely heavy rainfall indicated that over 16 houses in 24 villages were damaged affecting 71 population besides damaging 8 infrastructures.
As per the cumulative report issued by the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA), a total of 1094 population in 49 villages under 23 blocks were affected while 28 houses and 33 infrastructure were damaged during the past three days from May 29 to May 31.
