  • 4 died, 10,263 people affected due to rain related incidents in Meghalaya

    At least four persons have died, while two injured in rain-related incidents in the state from April 1 to 19, Minister in-charge Revenue and Disaster Management Kyrmen Shylla informed on Wednesday.

    Of this, two deaths were due to landslides at Mawlat under Mawkynrew Block in East Khasi Hills district and two from Garo Hills including one drowning at Baghmara block.

    He also assured that compensation will accordingly be given to the families of the victims as per law.

    Shylla also informed that over 10,263 people have been affected due to the incident while 160 houses were fully damaged and 2199 partly damaged.

    Stating that Ri Bhoi has been badly affected by nature’s fury, the minister said houses in 47 villages in Umsning Block and 29 villages in Bhoirymbong block were affected due to the cyclonic storm on April 14.

    He said that assessment is still being carried out to know the actual number of houses affected due to the incident.

    He said 6 cattle also died due to lightning strike in Amlarem Block, West Jaintia Hills.

    Meanwhile, the minister has also urged the citizens to stay alert and take all safety measures during such incidents.
