    Four persons were arrested in connection with the killing of a KSU activist during a clash at Ichamati near Shella village in East Khasi Hills District, last month.

    Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) GK Iangrai on Wednesday informed that officials of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) who are conducting the investigation of the case had successfully arrested another four persons who were allegedly involved in the incident.

    They have been identified as Birendro Debnath @ Babul (20), Sumon Dutta (20), Babla Acharjee (29) and Ponil Das (28), he said.

    Earlier, eight persons were arrested by the police. “As of date 12 alleged accused persons have been arrested,” Iangrai said while adding that investigation of the case is still ensuing in order to ascertain the facts and circumstances.

    (L) Lurshai Hynniewta, a KSU member succumbed to his injuries after being attacked by non-tribals at Ichamati village near Shella in East Khasi Hills district on February 28.

    The clash occurred after an anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act and demand to implement Inner Line Permit rally at Ichamati organised by KSU and Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People’s.

    On Monday, police also arrested two KSU members- Malajied Khongbuh and Landin Nongkynrih-  for their alleged involvement in the stabbing incidents in Shillong.  Rupchand Dewan, a vegetable vendor was stabbed to death at Iewduh market and 6 others grievously injured in the stabbing spree by masked men.

    The attack on Dewan and more than half-dozen non-tribal traders was the backlash following the death of a KSU member.
